Pele grew up in extreme poverty. He earn money by working in a tea shop. When he was just ten years old, he started playing football. He did not ever have money to buy a good football and shoes when his coach tought him to play. So he used to play with the barefoot by bashing the newspaper in socks and tying it with a rope. At the age of 11, he coined the idea of playing for Paul's Club. In 1965, when he played his first match for Santos Club, Pele was only 15 years old.

Pele then left the school and joined the Brazil National Football Team. After joining the national team, Pele made the Brazil team the world champion. He has scored a total of 1281 goals in 1363 matches of his career. He retired from the game of football on 18 July, 1971. Brazilians were deeply saddened by his announcement of retirement.
